Lack of Human Dignity in the United States Treatment of Chronic Pain Patients

“Recognizing the intrinsic dignity of all persons and that withholding of pain treatment is profoundly wrong, leading to unnecessary suffering which is harmful; we declare that access to appropriate opioid pain medication for chronic pain is a basic human right.”

Compassion for people suffering with chronic pain is something that’s sorely lacking in the healthcare system in the United States.  Part of that is driven by the DEA targeting doctors, other than DATA 2000 addiction medicine doctors. These doctors are the ONLY doctors given a free pass (government issued waiver) to prescribe OPIOIDS, BUT ONLY TO OPIOID ADDICTS!

Chronic pain patients who endure the abuses of “pain management” are truly suffering both financially and from lack of prescribing or under-prescribing of life-restoring opioid pain medications. Doctors fear losing their licenses or being jailed for trying to relieve suffering. What’s their answer to the dilemma? Stop prescribing all pain relieving prescription pain medications and let the patients suffer.
